Holy Spirit Catholic School Division is proud to announce that Mr. Patrick Leahy, a first year teacher at St. Paul School in Lethbridge, has been selected as the division’s Edwin Parr nominee for 2020. The Edwin Parr Award recognizes excellence in teachers beginning their professional careers.
“We’re really proud to bring forward Mr. Leahy’s name as our Edwin Parr nominee,” states Superintendent Ken Sampson. “He’s got some great natural skills that will only improve as he gains more experience over the coming years.”
“Patrick is so authentic,” states Principal Gerry Muldoon. “He’s a natural at building connections with his students; ALL of his students. He has a way of reaching out to those who really need a little help and he builds their confidence.” Laughs Principal Gerry Muldoon, “He’s just so confident but humble, if that makes any sense.”
Patrick expresses that he’s very excited to be selected for the award. “It’s always amazing to be recognized as doing a great job in any profession, but to have sat in on our Faith Formation sessions with other first year teachers and seen the things that they are doing - and then to be selected from that group - is huge!”
Given the recent out-break of COVID-19, it’s difficult to know if any recognition for the Edwin Parr Award will continue for this year. Leahy’s perspective on this is humbling. “People take priority over personal recognition,” he says. “I really care about my students and I miss them, but their safety is the most important thing right now.”
